Recent Developments in the Use of Intralesional Injections Keloid Treatment

چکیده
Keloid scars are often considered aesthetically unattractive and frustrating problems that occur following injuries. They cause functional and cosmetic deformities, displeasure, itching, pain, and psychological stress and possibly affect joint movement. The combination of these factors ultimately results in a compromised quality of life and diminished functional performance. Various methods have been implemented to improve keloid scars using both surgical and non-surgical approaches. However, it has proven to be a challenge to identify a universal treatment that can deliver optimal results for all types of scars. Through a PubMed search, we explored most of the literature that is available about the intralesional injection treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids and highlights both current (corticosteroid, 5-fluorouracil, bleomycin, interferon, cryotherapy and verapamil) and future treatments (interleukin-10 and botulinum toxin type A). The reference lists of retrieved articles were also analysed. Information was gathered about the mechanism of each injection treatment, its benefits and associated adverse reactions, and possible strategies to address adverse reactions to provide reliable guidelines for determining the optimal treatment for particular types of keloid scars. This article will benefit practitioners by outlining evidence-based treatment strategies using intralesional injections for patients with hypertrophic scars and keloids.

Comparison of Intralesional Triamcinolone Acetonide, 5-Fluorouracil, and Their Combination in Treatment of Keloids
BACKGROUND Despite the myriad options available, there is no universally accepted treatment for keloids. This study has compared intralesional triamcinolone acetonide, 5-fluorouracil, and their combination in treatment of keloids. METHODS In this randomized parallel group study, 60 patients were enrolled and randomly allocated to three groups. Patients received intralesional injections of tr...
متن کاملLong-Term Results of Intralesional Triamcinolone Acetonide Injections in Keloid Treatment
Background: Intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (TAC) injections are often used as the first alternative for treating keloid scarring. The long-term outcome of this treatment is unclear. Also, undesirable local side effects have been recognized in clinical work and literature but they have been labelled as harmless and rare. Methods: We documented the long-term outcome of intralesional TAC in...
متن کاملEffect of lidocaine tape on pain during intralesional injection of triamcinolone acetonide for the treatment of keloid.
BACKGROUND Because intralesional injection of triamcinolone acetonide (TA), a widely used for the treatment of keloid, is painful, many patients discontinue treatment. We evaluated the effects of pretreatment with topical 60% lidocaine tape on the pain and tolerability of intralesional TA treatment in patients with keloid. METHODS The subjects were 42 patients with keloid who had been treated...
متن کاملA comparative study on the efficacy of intralesional injections of Bleomycin and Normal Saline in treatment of recalcitrant common warts on palm and dorsum of hand
Background: Wart is a common skin disease, and 8% of patients referred to dermatologists suffer from warts. Objective: To compare the efficacy of intralesional injections of bleomycin with normal saline in treatment of common resistant warts on palms and dorsum of hands. Patients & Methods: This study was a double blind, randomized, controlled clinical trial on 34 patients with common war...
متن کاملWhat is the role of intralesional corticosteroid injections for keloids before considering surgery?
BACKGROUND Keloid scars are common cutaneous lesions encountered by plastic surgeons. They are distinguished from normal scars and hypertrophic scars by their ability to spread outside the boundaries of the original scar. Corticosteroids are a mainstay of treatment, and their effectiveness is thought to be due to the inhibition of fibroblast growth and the promotion of collagen degradation. The...
